Social Media Superstar Matthew Espinosa’s “Be Somebody” is First Film

LOS ANGELES, April 27, 2016 – Continuing its growing success with digital creators whose content has sold across multiple platforms, Studio71, the media studio and multichannel network of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, and Paramount’s Worldwide Television Licensing & Distribution and Acquisitions division have entered into a multi-picture distribution deal for films from top digital influencers.

The first film to be released as part of the agreement is Be Somebody, starring actor and social media phenomenon Matthew Espinosa, who has more than 20 million followers on social media with more than 1 billion loops/views on Vine.

Be Somebody is directed by Joshua Caldwell (Layover) and written by Lamar Damon (Bunheads; Slap Her, She’s French!). The film tells the fictional story of a teen pop-star who’s desperate to find a more normal life. When he abandons his sold-out tour and runs away to find refuge in a small town, he runs smack into Emily, a rebellious street-artist who wants nothing to do with him.

In addition to Espinosa, who will be making his acting debut as Jordan Jaye, the film also stars Sarah Jeffery (Shades of Blue, Wayward Pines, Disney’s Descendants), Tava Smiley (General Hospital), Caitlin Keats (Kill Bill: Vol. 2), LaMonica Garrett (Sons of Anarchy, The Game) and Allison Paige (Days of Our Lives, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries).

“Matthew Espinosa represents the next generation of talent who have honed their craft and built massive audiences on non-traditional platforms. Studio 71 is excited to work with a major studio like Paramount who recognize this talent and can help leverage the exposure to a much wider audience,” said Gary Binkow, Chief Content Officer, Studio71.

“Studio71 is known for creating crossover opportunities for digital stars and we are excited to be working with them on Matthew Espinosa’s feature film debut,” said Syrinthia Studer, SVP Marketing & Acquisitions, Paramount Home Media Distribution.  “We look forward to combining our distribution prowess with Studio71’s tremendous reach to build an expansive audience for this terrific new content.”
